This month’s book: The Winter Army: The WWII Odyssey of the 10th Mountain Division, America’s Elite Alpine Warriors  by Maurice Isserman.

This is the epic story of the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division, whose elite soldiers broke the last line of German defenses in Italy’s mountains in 1945, spearheading the Allied advance to the Alps and final victory. From the ski slopes of Colorado to the towering cliffs of the Italian Alps, this unlikely band of soldiers formed a brotherhood whose legacy lives on in U.S. mountain fighters to this day.

Also: Book recommendations for 2022 are still being collected! The list will be compiled in December and presented at our December get-together.
